Lucent Re-imaging

I recognize the memory of the body in my work through the red dress drawings and the robe paintings and orient light through color and in the overlap of layers that creates spatial depth. Between 1984 2004 I have worked within the complexities of architectural practice and with questions of re-presentation in visual art; experimenting through drawing (1&2) painting (3), and architecture (4,5 & 6) to study: spatial overlap, cultural transparency, the symbolic and the ontological. These interests represent an emergent thesis which I reference as "lucent re-imaging".

Lucent re-imaging is a multivalent project that considers a number of conceptual positions in art and architecture simultaneously, out of historical sequence. This re-combinative process recognizes several layers of expression, the [ red dress ] as formalism : considering the value of directness of expression as is not what is drawn but rather how it is drawn, [ giza ] as the symbolic : considering a correlation between ancient and modern language concepts through the symbol as image-text in Egypt, as software icons in contemporary culture, the[ begging's ] as the study of cultural artifacts / ontology : transparent color fields with mis-registered lines indicating apertures eluding to infinite cosmological space reflected by ritual and myth. material aesthetic : mining the use of various materials to evoke an emotional response of physical immediacy. --- andrew guidry, artist and architect
