News about Architosh: Update on Site and Future
Architosh is doing fine. Rest assured there will be no sudden pulling-down-of-the-site like the MacAttorney site story reported earlier this week at MacCentral. Architosh is a long term deal and there are great ideas for the site in the works. Only two months old, this site is still a baby--even on Internet time. We hope that a year from now Architosh will be permanently staffed at BritasMedia (the publisher and parent company) and able to bring a steady stream of new content to the site. At the moment it is extremely challenging finding, researching and bringing new content to the site but we work hard on it whenever we have the time. We appreciate those readers who share invaluable tips, story leads and going-ons around the web and AEC industry. About Software Additions - How to make the Transition The second part of the Financial Software for Architects - Part 2/2 will be a few days late and will not arrive this week as planned. That's the bad news. The good news is, the reason it will be late is partly due to the discovery of other useful financial software for AEC professionals. You may be surprised at the range of options you have in this software category. And the more we look the more we find. It's truly amazing! If only it worked this way for CAD. :-( Software additions to the site will be handled a little differently over the next three to four months. We are currently in the planning phase for Architosh 2, the next version of this web site. Architosh will become more "guide" and "task" oriented, focusing on both software and hardware options for doing specific things in practice, like plotting CAD files or setting up groupware software. Part of this is changing because of feedback from our Apple contacts who happen to be knowledgeable in the AEC field and from other readers who put forth suggestions. Not only will Architosh 2 look totally different, it will organize software into guides, with criteria evaluations like price, RAM requirements, technology implementations (eg. OpenGL, RAVE, QuickDraw, QT4.0, etc.) and comments. All of this will take a lot of work. So in the interim, major new software additions, like the Financial software, will be placed in a Special News Report format, and we'll keep them easily accessible on the News page. Miscellaneous: About AEC and Small Business at Apple Apple has made public its intentions to reenter the small business market this Spring. We are hoping that this results in a new web area for small business, similar to the web areas on Apple's site for publishing and design. And we hope that the AEC market can be addressed in this small business area, including links to Architosh and other Mac-oriented sites that can help AEC professionals. Although Architosh is not in the rumors business--and by the way, I've been told by Apple employees that know, Steve can't stand the rumor sites--there is one story that seems worth suggesting. An Apple contact who shall remain anonymous told Architosh that something big, really big and exciting is coming this April (most likely at NAB in Las Vegas). And it has to do with the business market (the small business market). Piecing together other items mentioned in these conversations, plus other pieces from the Web, Architosh will put forth some possibilities. Here is what is most likely going to happen in April:
Of course, some of this we do know is coming for sure, and we should all know that new iMac's, running at speeds up to 333 MHz, are already in the channel and are due at retailers next week. If all of this list happens in the month of April, even just the announcements, that will be truly amazing.
