Part - 4: Continued - Expo Floor Pictures

28 July 99.

As a big fan of the Newton OS it was hard to see this. Here was a company with people literally tripping over themselves to get a closer look at the Palm Pilot machines, a PDA in a market that Apple literally invented single-handedly. While the Palm is definitely a platform to consider, especially if you are a Mac user, there are many things a Newton user might miss -- like true and useful handwriting recognition. Personally I'll keep using my Newton until that happens.

Palm Computing's booth no doubt sent a big message to Apple: "Apple! Get in the PDA business!" "For God sakes, what are you waiting for?"

Palm was by far the loudest and most popular exhibit next to Apple and made Adobe and even Macromedia look dull.

people many more than four deep gather around Palm's demonstration theater. The crowd was so large that many neighboring exhibitors seemed frustrated.

Is the Palm Pilot your next PDA? Should it be? What can you do with it in AEC practice?

Architosh will be getting into those questions in the month ahead.

Palm's Pilot III, V and VII were all there.
