Survey Preview: Half of all Architosh readers are Architects
Currently we are running a reader survey to help in determining site visitor demographics for Architosh and to help us plan future content in the next generation of this online publication. Such data is critical to help sell ad banner space to "highly targeted" advertisers -- a necessary (but not necessarily evil) requirement for the future financial support of this site. As many of you may have already figured out, Architosh's current upper and lower ad banners are predominantly "house ads" -- as most of our inventory has gone unsold due to limited site visitors and financial resources for the site staff. At the moment Architosh is growing from month to month at around 135% and within a few months we should have a enough visitors to sustain the levels required for "specialized" ad networks, of which a specifically A/E/C network is being sought. The reason we are seeking an A/E/C network is simple: we want most of our readers to be interested and served well by the ads on our site. And as our reader survey data is telling us, we have one of the most concentrated, high-targeted sites around -- and the most vertical of all the Macintosh news sites.
Most of Architosh's Readers Are? According to the survey data we have received so far, over 55% of all respondents to the survey are architects, while the next two largest groups are engineers (of all types related to A/E/C) and IT professionals and "others". The chart below gives a summary of the current data for the second question of the survey: "What type of Disciplinary Macintosh user are you?" The answers" (a) Architect (b) Home Designer or Interior Designer (c) Engineer [AEC discipline] (d) Engineer [non AEC] (e) Construction Professional (f) Industrial Designer (g) 3D Pro (h) Other [includes IT].
We believe this reflects the way in which this site was made known to the general online public. Back in February, when the site was introduced, word of Architosh spread like a wildfire throughout the architectural CAD message boards at various vendor sites and through direct email from architects to other architects. Within a few months Architects from over 18 countries around the world had written in praising the site for its content and focus. As a side note, we have done no advertising ourselves up to this point. Currently, site readers total over 10,000 unique readers each month, according to our latest log data, with a large majority of those readers being regular repeat visitors and new visitors from sites like MacSurfer and the Mac Observer. Our goal with increasing site audience based on this preliminary data is to target Construction Pros, and 3D Pros, as this group appears to be under-served by the site -- insofar as we are able to determine their percentage of the total audience being served.

In the next few weeks we will report on previews of the data for the other questions as well. At the end of the survey we will produce a final report with charts like this one and more.
