MacCAD News: Apple has new Macintosh in Architecture Web Page!
Ever since one of Apple's many reorganizations Apple has been without a web site or area exclusively dealing with the practice of architecture on the Macintosh platform. Until now. Integrating Technology in the Curriculum: Macs in Academia The new Higher Education site has a new section about integrating technology into the curriculum with discipline specific web pages. Architecture is one of the first four new Apple web pages devoted to providing a guide for building, as they call it, "your own toolkit for more interactive and engaging curriculum." The other three Apple web pages in this new area are Film and Video, Art, and Design. The new Apple Architecture web page is pretty cool, with the typically well designed graphics and playful use of the official Apple Garamond font. But the coolest item on the new page -- at least to us here at Architosh -- is the listing of our own site Architosh as the first resource, listed under "Resources" in the right hand column. Already, according to our server log data, the new Architecture page at Apple is one of the top web referrers to Architosh, just under Microsoft -- if you can believe it or not. This recognition is really important to us as we continue to spread the word that the number one place on the Internet for Macintosh AEC and related design pros is Architosh. The more the better as we continue to establish a sizable online community around Architosh -- building the community Apple will better understand in the future. The new page lists some applications but stops way shy of what it could lists. We think Apple's intention with these pages is to create a simple "digital doorway" to more expansive content, vertically organized by discipline. This is a good low-cost way for Apple to exploit and leverage the existing advocacy resources already on the Net while providing an enticing and consistent starter page for each discipline.
