New Macintosh 3D modeling/rendering app for the Web!
Over the weekend we discovered a new Macintosh 3D application for the Web. Vecta3D is a new application and plugin for Macintosh and Windows. Vecta3D technology comes in two versions, one which is a plugin for 3D Studio Max (and thus Windows only) and is available now, and the other a stand-alone application for both the Mac OS and Windows platforms. Vecta3D Standalone application is a one-stop solution for creating 3D images and animations for Macromedia Flash and other popular vector formats. The program allows for the creation of wireframe and rendered 3D models for the Web in a fraction of the time it would take to do it by hand or other means. Furthermore, these 3D vector-based Web models are incredibly small in file size for excellent Web delivery. Vecta3D's abilities include full control over perspective and scene lighting and interactive editing of color and line styles for the models. It also supports Flash gradient fills. Vecta3D can import popular 2D, vector-based artwork and automatically create 3D versions. The program supports popular formats like Macromedia Flash, Freehand and Adobe Illustrator. Vecta3d is marketed as being incredibly fast (the web site says up to 25 times faster than competitive technologies). Vecta3D Standalone version 1.0 is priced at just $59 and a free trial version is available to download. At the moment Ideaworks3D, the software developers, are adding a gradient shader to the application but the program is scheduled to be ship in the very near future. You can sign up for a pre-release Beta version at this time (you will need Stuffit Expander 5) and test out the application for yourself.
