Mac CAD leader VectorWorks helps 'The Matrix' win Oscars

Very few people know that CAD programs are playing a more significant role in the movies these days, and so it is our pleasure to share with you a recent Oscar-related press release from Mac CAD vendor Diehl Graphsoft -- the makers of VectorWorks.

The Matrix cleaned up on Oscar night last Sunday with four Oscars in the areas of sound, special effects and imaging and others, some areas that were helped by Diehl Graphsoft's VectorWorks CAD product. According to the press release:

"MiniCAD VectorWorks' technology helped the producers of The Matrix walk away with four Oscars, its not the first time the software has helped its users win entertainment industry awards. MiniCAD VectorWorks was responsible for the Tony Award-winning lighting effects in the Broadway stage play, Chicago, and was used extensively in the production of the ever-popular, The X-Files (TV version). The software is used routinely to set the live lighting design for a number of music industry performers, including, Grammy-award winners, The Dave Matthews Band, and Metallica. Additionally, VectorWorks has made strong inroads into network television productions, including prime-time hit show, Once and Again."

"Triumph in the visual effects categories was helped along thanks to VectorWorks' speed and accuracy in the design of the Ecto-chair, the film's futuristic interface that was used to transport Keanu Reeves into the visually charged world of the Matrix."
