Macintosh 3D debate rages in MacCentral story

10 May 00

The MacCentral story on LightWave 6 sure did get readers hopping on all things 3D in the Mac space. The story itself concerns the latest release of LightWave 6 for Mac, a significant upgrade with AltiVec support and the like.

What is your take on LightWave 6 versus everything else?

First a reader simply asks how LightWave 6 stacks up against a product like Carrara (now owned by Adobe)? "Whole different league", one reader responds (which is true of course). The discussion gets into the Carrara pros/cons and eventually into Cinema4D versus LightWave.

Some readers claimed that 3D sucks on the Macintosh period. Without any super highend apps for 3D on the Mac what are we talking about? Needless to say, other readers quickly let this particular reader know about Electric Image (originally Mac-only) and others chimed in with Pixels:3D.

Still others seemed to think that Maya for Mac OS X will be the reason for doing 3D on the Macintosh (if and when that happens). Lot's of good discussion folks, so hop over to MacCentral.
