AEC Systems 2000 3D CAD Shootout News

The now famous CAD Shootout staged at AEC industry events is being held this week at AEC Systems 2000. This morning the Presentation of Projects took place. The Awards Presentation will take place tomorrow at 1:00 PM EDT.

Yesterday teams representing different and competing CAD products for architecture met up for the challenge in a fast-paced 4-hour charrette. This year the event's method of evaluation has shifted toward more of a "demonstration" of the CAD software and less of a "team competition". The emphasis being on the CAD Shootout as an educational venue.

As quoted from the news page at ArchitecturalCADD:

"Since the main purpose of this event is to serve as an educational venue to see how architects work in each of the design software (CADD) packages side by side, we are shifting emphasis to more of a demonstration as opposed to a "competition.

The jury of architects will post their comments on each Teams work and software, but will not grade or rank the various Teams. To emphasize this difference for 2000 we have taken the ranking bar charts off of the web sites for previous years of the Design Shootout. Thus, with no way to "loose" other than not having a Team in the event, we are encouraging architects to help show off their favorite CADD software packages."

This year the shootout was named "3D Shootout" and included some new teams in the mix. Noteworthy was the addition of a VersaCAD team, being that VersaCAD is back in action thanks to Archways Systems.
