MWSF: 3D and CAD vendors at MacWorld Expo SF

Architosh tracks the attendance of critical vendors in the Macintosh CAD and 3D market segments at MacWorld Expo and other shows and this year was a good year—signs that the Macintosh 3D and CAD market is stronger than in the past.

This Year's Vendors in the 3D and CAD Arena

• Strata - The makers of innovative 3D animation and rendering software, including the venerable Strata 3D Pro line. (booth 449)
• VRToolBox - market leading 3D virtual reality tools for QuickTime VR production work. (Booth 443)
• Alias/Wavefront - the makers of the industry leading Maya software (booth 917)
• Maxon Computers - the makers of Cinema4D modeling/rendering and animation software from Germany. (Booth 943)
• Corel - the company how in control of Bryce for Mac OS X
• Hash Inc - the makers of Hash Animation System
• AEC Software - while not a CAD vendor the maker of market leading AEC industry software
• auto-des-sys Inc. - the makers of Form-Z modeling software (booth 2125)
• Nemetschek NA. - the makers of the VectorWorks line of CAD products and Industry Series Add-ons (booth 2223)
• Eovia - the makers of Carrara Studio and the venerable Amapi 3D (booth 2339)
• Discreet - the makers of Combustion for 3D effects in video animation (booth 3427)
• NewTek - the makers of Lightwave 3D, a leading highend 3D application (booth 3735)
• Adobe - Adobe is now a 3D player with the new Web 3D software Atmosphere (booth 1829)

With a dozen vendors in the 3D/CAD/AEC space there is a lot to see at this year's MacWorld SF show. We only hope this number improves over time. We understand from reports in the news that the actual overall vendor count is down, due to the negative economy and post 911 traveling concerns. This number would likely improve next year.

Architosh Analysis: With Strata back to life and going strong it is good to see them make a strong appearance at the largest MacWorld Expo show in SF. Most of the other vendors have been attending MacWorld Expos in recent times, with Alias/Wavefront being a large and important newcomer to the latest shows. With Electric Image coming back to life it would have been nice to have seen them make a strong appearance as well. Maybe next time!
