Architosh Readers Chime in on Revit buyout by Autodesk

Architosh readers aren't necessarily quiet about Revit's new marriage to Autocad giant, Autodesk Inc. Numerous readers have written in with negative sentiment about Autodesk as a company and in pertains to our petition for Autocad on Mac OS X as well as the demise of Revit's independence as a company.

One reader wrote:

In my opinion, Autodesk will then seek to kill [off] Revit as we know it, very possibly incorporating Revit features into the Architectural Desktop interface.

This would be an unfortunate sequence of events and it is not above Autodesk's behavior judging from its past acquisitions and removals of technologies and file formats in the CAD market. GenericCAD comes to mind.

Fred Johnson wrote in about technology issues with:

... revit technology will surely find its way into future versions of architectural desktop creating more translation issues... I see more and more niches arising with hard borders between software programs and platforms, we are going in the wrong direction.

Behaving Like Microsoft?

Bob Tinker wrote in taking affense to our Autocad for Mac OS X petition (which is related insomuch as it pertains to the same company and its business practices) Here is what he had to say:

Pardon my intrusion, but my issue fits with the Revit buy up news. Hey Architosh guys, I like what you have been doing with Architosh, but... I will again admonish you for the Autocad petition thing. This is a great disservice to Architecture, the Mac platform, and computing in general. Have you not heard that Autodesk has just purchased Revit, the premier third wave 3D CAD software - which is only available for Windows. Autodesk is behaving just like Microsoft.

Well...we certainly don't hope to put off folks over a petition more than 5000 Mac users have asked to have. However we do understand your pain ;-)
