MacCAD: Lundstrum Design to release TouchCAD 3.0

TouchCAD 3.0

TouchCAD 3.0 is a 3D modeling and unfolding program that allows you to model and unfold very complex shapes. It can be used for many different tasks where you assemble objects using flat sheets of material, such as various fabrics, sheets of metal, wood, plastic, etc.

The 3D modeling engine is based on a much upgraded version of Lundstr�m Design's MCnurbs Creator engine. It provides a wide range of modeling tools such as extrusions, lofting, sweep/revolve, path extrusion, skinning of points and curves, surface and curve trimming, etc. It is very easy to edit the surfaces by adding or deleting control points and curves, adjusting the display mode, surface type and resolution parametrically.

The unfolding engine is based on the Touch-3D unfolding engine but also offers a wide range of new features such as parametric overlaps / seem allowances, panel and vertex indexing, alignment /strike up marks, parametric panel splitting in both direction and resolution.

TouchCAD 3.0 has a built in OpenGL based real time rendering engine that allows you to look at the model from any view, rotate it, walk into it and generate a basic animation.

TouchCAD 3.0 will be available for MacOSX, Mac OS Classic and Windows 32 based computers.

There are a number of industries of potential use of TouchCAD:

Fabric Design - The combination of the new powerful modeling engine and a highly parametric unfolding engine makes TouchCAD 3.0 very suitable for production of fabric based objects. It enables you to design just about any shape and provides a good set of tools for optimizing the use of material. The parametric overlaps /seam allowances and other features are of course also useful. TouchCAD 3.0 can communicate with existing production equipment by exporting files as DXF, Adobe Illustrator (and compatibles), and Sail Science Plotmaker.

Sheet Metal Design - TouchCAD 3.0 provides parametric tools for a vide range of standard shapes such as T-tubes, circular to rectangular transformations, elbow tubes, etc. These shapes can be used as they are or as a base for a modified version.

Marine Design - TouchCAD 3.0 provides a range of tools for marine design such as dynamic cross sectioning that includes cutting lines and labels. TouchCAD 3.0 can calculate the weight, center of gravity, surface area, wetted surface, prismatic and block coefficients, buoyancy and center of buoyancy, etc. TouchCAD 3.0 can also generate offset tables.
