Holiday Sales Up, Apple up in IT Manager Respect
Apple's Thanksgiving Holiday Sets Store Record
Apple Computer reported a record level of shoppers at its 50 retail
Apple Stores over the holiday weekend, reaching 365,000 people in
six days. That's 7300 people per store over the six day holiday
weekend.
Apple also had its fair share of promotions for the Thanksgiving
weekend. On " Black Friday," Apple, of Cupertino, Calif., held a
special holiday event from 6 p.m. to midnight in which customers
who attended received free stocking stuffers, special values, and
a chance to win a new 15-inch iMac. For more in the report read

Apple Up in the Minds of IT Managers and Experts
Network World Fusion online has an excellent
article entitled: New OS creating Macintosh Converts. The article
does a superb job of talking about IT managers now beginning to
utilize Macintosh OS X boxes in heterogeneous environments and why
they are changing their minds about Macs!
Highlights in the article include discussion of the various OS
X technologies utilized to enable smooth integration of Macs in
mixed environments as well as the reasoning behind the shifts. Some
of the products mentioned include Vertitas
Software's NetBackup and Famatech's
Remote Administrator. Others are Samba,
Citrix's MetaFrame, MySQL and
PostgreSQL databases, and such things as HP's new OpenView software.
The article has a number of really great quotes by IT managers
in a variety of large companies. It seems to show that OS X is making
the type of impression in corporate America that Apple was hoping
it would (and perhaps faster than they thought).
