Mac3D: REALVIZ Ships ImageModeler 3.5 for Mac OS X

Architosh Press Report: Award-winning Image Based 3D Modeling Software Now Available For Mac OSX, With A Windows XP/2000 Version Slated For Release in Q1 2003.

REALVIZ®, a leader in image processing software development, is pleased to announce the availability of ImageModeler 3.5, available for the very first time on the Macintosh platform. Using photographs as a revolutionary approach to 3D content creation, REALVIZ ImageModeler 3.5, offers an innovative and intuitive approach to the often time-consuming and complex task of creating 3D models. With an advanced workflow-driven interface, and refined modeling toolset, ImageModeler 3.5 is the result of over 1 year's intensive work, drastically improving workflow processes and productivity levels, whilst enabling the accurate re-creation of even the most complex of objects or scenes. 3D and non-3D artists alike are able to commence production immediately. A Windows XP/2000 version of the application is also slated for release in Q1 2003.

Using advanced algorithms, REALVIZ ImageModeler 3.5 extracts 3D information from photographs, and helps users to measure and recreate accurate 3D models with highly realistic results. Automatic texturing from photographs drastically reduces the time necessary to create high-quality models compared to traditional 3D modeling applications. Additional features such as the ability to make point-to-point measurements and to create texture per object with the Unwrap Texture feature help users create models that suit their individual needs. A new calibration engine makes for significantly faster and more accurate scene reconstruction for amazingly lifelike models and textures, which can then be exported to your favorite package.

ImageModeler is a multifaceted application, which can be employed by 3D content creators working in numerous industries. It can be used for modeling scenes or buildings for architectural purposes, for example, for calculations and 3D surveys from photographs, for creating 3D virtual visits and the fast creation of photo-realistic backdrops, for human modeling, industrial design, animation and special effects, or for the simple creation of photo-realistic objects compatible with Web 3D formats.

More on ImageModeler 3.5

"At San Francisco's DVGarage, REALVIZ ImageModeler 3.5 puts the power of extremely fast photo-real 3d into our hands. ImageModeler is the missing link between reality and Virtual Reality, because the photos you use to derive geometry are the photos you use to texture! We recently modeled a one block long rooftop and surrounding cityscape in about 24 hours! I found the Mac OSX version to be very, very effective." Henry Kyburg, DV Garage

"Image-based modeling is a technology which has represented a huge development effort, both here at REALVIZ for a few years and at INRIA(*) for many more. The new version of our ImageModeler product software, version 3.5, takes the best of these intensive efforts from our top engineers here at REALVIZ and incorporates most of the customer requests from previous versions." said Dominique Pouliquen, REALVIZ Chairman and CEO. "Previous owners of ImageModeler will be both surprised and excited, we think, at the power and flexibility of the new product, whilst new users will wonder how they managed to survive without this great application until now! From our point of view, we are very pleased to be introducing this product to the Mac platform for the very first time. 2003 promises to be good year, and this is a great starting point for REALVIZ."

Macworld UK recently named REALVIZ ImageModeler 3.5 as one of the winners of the prestigious Macworld 'Best of Show' Awards, representing the most exciting hardware and software products announced at MacExpo 2002 at the Business Design Centre in London. To be eligible for Best of Show consideration, products were either making their public debut at MacExpo, or were recently introduced and likely to generate excitement on the show floor. In October 2002, REALVIZ also highlighted the work of US client, View Studio, who used REALVIZ ImageModeler with stunning results in their visual effects work for the Tom Cruise/Steven Spielberg movie 'Minority Report', with Oscar pundits now predicting a possible Academy Award for the film's visual effects.

Pricing and Availability

REALVIZ ImageModeler 3.5 is currently available for Mac OS X through REALVIZ resellers worldwide at a price point of $750.00.US For existing ImageModeler customers, the following up-grade arrangements will apply: a free cross-grade to version 3.5 (Mac) will be given to owners of ImageModeler 3.0 (Windows) - valid for purchases made after 9. September 2002. Proof of purchase required. If preferred, these clients may also wait until late Q1 2003 to upgrade to the Windows XP/2000 version of ImageModeler 3.5 (also free of charge). Owners of ImageModeler 3.0 (Windows) - purchase prior to 9. September 2002 - as well as owners of earlier versions of ImageModeler (Windows) - are also able to cross-grade to version 3.5 (Mac) for $ 250.00.US Once again, these users may wait if preferred to upgrade to the Windows XP/2000 version of ImageModeler 3.5 on its release in Q1 2003 (also for $ 250.00.US)
