MacCAD and 3D: BOA Targets New Users with Aggressive Price Point

Architosh Press Report: BOA Research Targets Expanded User Base with Aggressive Pricing Aimed At Expanding Its Market Share

BOA Research, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, has announced new pricing for its flagship BOA CAD program, a true building information modeling (BIM) application for the architectural and related design markets. Based on cutting edge 3D technology developed originally for the venerable Architrion 3D CAD program, BOA offers some unique strengths not found in any other CAD software addressing the model-centric approach to computer-aided design and drafting.

Expanding The User Base

The aim of the new pricing level is to expand the user base as rapidly as possible by making BOA more affordable in the current economic climate. The current classic Macintosh version will be sold at $349US and will provide the full embedded drawing capacity of 128 drawings.

BOA Research provides architects and other building professionals with intuitive software to design directly in 3D, visualize and interact with their model in live architecturally specific views, such as sections, plans, section perspectives, elevation, and details. Any view can be developed into a construction drawing as part of full contract document sets.

Architosh Analysis: We think BOA is a very innovative product and we gave BOA high marks in our last review and indepth series. As far as model-centric CAD for architecture goes, BOA's core technology is the strongest in so far as the viewing, navigation and creation in three dimensions is concerned. It reflects the maturity that comes from its Architrion days. In many ways BOA is similar to SketchUp and its addictive way of working naturally and almost exclusively in 3D views, except that BOA is a full fledge product for architecture. At this price point, BOA is now a superb candidate for supplementing existing CAD products like PowerCADD, VectorWorks, Microstation, and Autocad and MacDraft.
