IMSI ships new TurboCAD version 6, but not for Macintosh

23 Mar 99.

IMSI has shipped its new flagship CAD product TurboCAD 6.0, but, unfortunately, not for Macintosh. The new version includes innovative, market leading Internet integration in an affordable 2D/3D CAD professional CAD solution. TurboCAD 6 includes the advanced solid modeling kernel, ACIS 4.3, by Spatial Technologies, the same kernel found in high-end modeling and rendering applications such as Electric Image. The program also uses rendering technology from LightWorks, for photorealistic images.

IMSI is boasting that there is no better CAD software for the price (under $500). As good as this offer seems, Macintosh architects are still stuck at TurboCAD 2D/3D (Mac), an older version that dates back to the time of AutoCAD 12.

IMSI is a very large software developer with dozens and dozens of products in over five categories. Although their Macintosh software support has decreased over the last few years, they still sell a number of Macintosh products for graphics, including: MasterClips WebArt; MasterClips 303,000; MasterClips 150,000; and MasterPhotos 75,000, in addition to TurboCAD (Mac). Macintosh users that enjoy any of these products should remind IMSI of that fact. With the Macintosh market's resurgence, hopefully IMSI will again resume Macintosh development.
