Lombard: Super-thin PowerBook with G4 processor

26 Apr 99.

In a news story on Infoworld this weekend, it was reported that Apple Computer showed dealers its next-generation Professional PowerBook line behind closed doors at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference, in Las Vegas, last week.

The new PowerBook line, which goes by the code name Lombard, is reported to run 400 MHz and faster G4 processors and be as thin as Sony's 0.9-inch Vaio portable. The three-and-one-half pound portable system also features a detachable LCD that can be replaced with goggles for so-called heads-up display.

Lombard has been rumored to be ready for introduction sometime this Spring, however the G4 processor was not expected until the summer at the earliest. If this inside information about Lombard holds up, Apple may have G4-based towers ready for Macworld Expo this July, which would be great news for the Mac platform.
