MiniCAD VectorWorks 8.5 beta available to public

18 June 99.

Diehl Graphsoft announced yesterday that it has begun beta testing of VectorWorks 8.5 (formerly known as MiniCAD), a feature upgrade from VectorWorks 8.0. Right on the heals of the release of VectorWorks 8, the new version update will primarily feature new items aimed at the third-party developer community as opposed to end-users. While the product does wrap up bug fixes and minor improvements since 8.0, the large new feature in 8.5 will be a substantially enhanced VectorWorks API (application programming interface), including new plug-in object types and expanded language features to the proprietary VectorScript integrated development environment (IDE).

Keeping with its aggressive campaigns to meet the demands of the CAD community, Diehl Graphsoft will make the beta version of VectorWorks 8.5 and its related documentation available to the public as a free download from its website. According to Sean Flaherty, Chief Technology Officer, "Our goal in making the beta version available to the public is to give the developer community a head start in creating custom solutions using the new capabilities of VectorWorks 8.5." "We are confident that the developer community at large will be impressed with VectorWorks' ability to serve as a foundation product; a genuine development platform", he added.

Once the final version of VectorWorks 8.5 is complete, a CD will be mailed to all registered users free of charge. For more information click here.
