64-bit vs 32-bit
processors, and other items on the Web
A reader of MacOS Rumors
(August 10) wrote in with a good clarifying article on 64-bit Vs
32--bit processors, mentioning most importantly about the PowerPC
architecture Vs x86 by Intel that when it comes time to jump to
64-bit computing the PowerPC G5 (which is 64-bit based) can also
run code in a 32-bit mode. This means that the migration to 64-bit
will be nice on our wallets as we are allowed to run our older 32-bit
software on new G5 hardware...when that happens someday ; )
Silicon Graphics has introduced a new Value-Rich
Silicon Graphics O2+ Visual Workstation, for those IRIX users
in the audience. The news was announced at the Siggraph show. The
new O2+ Visual Workstations come with two processor options.
