Mac3D: Responses to RenderMan on OS X Request
Architosh recently published a story on a request for a petition for RenderMan on Mac OS X. We have decided to go ahead with that request based on excellent feedback from the Mac community in interest in RenderMan for Mac OS X.
Maya on OS X is changing the complexion of the Mac in 3D
We received dozens of emails from folks wishing to see RenderMan on the Mac again. Time after time readers kept expressing the way Maya on Mac OS X is starting to change the complexion of the Mac in professional 3D. For example:
I'm a 3d modeler and animator. I would love to see the power of Maya and RenderMan both on my mac...then I could get rid of this ugly boring pc that takes up precious desk space. :) -- R. Gauthier
The consensus among our customers who already are Maya users on NT is that Renderman is probably the best in its field. Maya on Mac has generated tremendous interest. It only seems logical that Renderman follow suit. -- G. Kankindji
Naturally you don't have to be an experienced Maya user to want RenderMan on the Mac again. For many, all it takes is the passion to create 3D, a little bit of Pixar movie watching, and imagination. Still, for others, the chance to get RenderMan on the Mac again would bring back old memories. RenderMan used to run on the Mac in the early 90's.
I used MacRenderman in the early '90's, and would like to see it back again. No Mac support is ridiculous when the CEO of Pixar and Apple are the same guy, when the Mac popularized 3D on the desktop, when the G4 eats any Pentium alive in vector and floating-point processing, when the Mac is the choice of artists, and when you consider the massive p.r. possibilities. -- G. Latta
Just wanted to voice my support for bringing Renderman to OS X. I used to use renderman on my Mac ages ago and I think it could be a significant tool for many of us in the 3D world. If I can help out in any way, just let me know. - Matt.
