Mac Architects: Apple Sponsors Practice Series for Architects in Europe

Apple Computer has teamed up once again with the likes of Adobe, HP, Maxon, AEC Software, Nemetschek North America and others to offer a series of events in Europe showing architects how to exploit the potential offered by the latest digital practice tools in AEC. The events have been very popular in the past and are a great way to get to know the tools, the players and to network with colleagues and friends and find out what people are doing in their practice with digital technology.

Series Focus - Tools and Ideas

"Come and see how you can fully exploit the potential offered by the convergence of digital media into the design process", says the new data 2004 site. The seminar / events are structured to allow participants a chance to see leading edge applications demonstrated in one seamless workflow with a particular emphasis on presentations. "You will learn how easy it is to take advantage of some of the coolest tools to beat your competition and you'll be able to get back to your studio with the latest ideas on how to win your next bid", says the site.

Apple Computer will be a major sponsor of the events showing architects and related design professionals how the Mac OS X platform is used in AEC and why this UNIX-based operating system offers the most advanced technologies for creative technical professionals. On this platform are all of the best tools of the trade. Adobe will be showing their award-winning tools and will no doubt present Adobe PDF technology tools like Acrobat 6 for sharing technical documents. HP will discuss printing solutions, Nemetschek North America (sponsor) will present their award-winning VectorWorks series of CAD and 3D rendering products, @Last Software will present their award-winning and very popular SketchUp modeling and rendering products, Maxon will present Cinema4D the highend 3D tools used by many design professionals worldwide and its seamless integration with tools like VectorWorks, AEC Software will be showing how to organize projects with its FastTrack Schedule software, and lastly Mac OS X newcomer, Informatix will be showing the new Piranesi software -- sometimes called the "Photoshop for architects".

Architosh Analysis: Apple's European subsidiaries have consistently done a good job of marketing to and meeting the needs of architects and related design professionals in Europe and the United Kingdom. They just hosted a similar event last fall. It's sort of understandable then why the Mac's market share numbers are higher over in Europe than they are in the United States. To put that in a little perspective, over the past five years that Architosh has been in publication we have received approximately one third of our "reader email" from the United Kingdom and European countries, despite the fact that English is a second language to everyone across the pond (excepting the UK). This stat is sort of remarkable because we wonder what percentage of our email we'd have if we published in multiple languages? This tells us that despite the language barrier we receive a disproportionate amount of communications regarding the Mac in AEC from Europe.

We also know from developers who serve both markets that Apple's market share in some European countries is almost as high as 40 percent. We would love to see something like that develop here in the United States, but Apple must show up to the AEC Dance if they want somebody to ask them onto the dance floor. We understand some things are in the works so let's encourage Apple to move the ball forward. Communicate to them and tell them how you feel about their role or lack thereof in the AEC market space in the US.
