MidWeek Update: Mac CAD and 3D News

Apple VAR Focuses Mac CAD Store, Graphisoft Grabs Award for ArchiCAD and more...

It's time for Architosh to catch up a bit on some general CAD and 3D news on the Web that took place during our SIGGRAPH coverage. Here are several key items you may have missed in brief:

CADGarage

Integrated CADD Services has opened the doors to its new online store CAD Garage at www.cadgarage.com. The e-store is dedicated to Architects, Designers and Mac enthusiasts. "CAD Garage is staffed by part by trained architects, designers and Mac experts. This gives us an advantage over other on line stores in that we have real world expertise in the products that will actually help our customers accomplish their goals," said Greg Conygham, CEO of CAD Garage. "We're here to provide expert advice so that our customers don't have to waste their valuable time in locating a suite of tools for their teams."

CAD Garage was previously the ICS Online Store and has been redesigned with the customer in mind. New features besides improved layout include search on every page, shop-by-brand, sort-by-price and other improvements. Customers can take advantage of grand opening promotions now. The first 50 customers will receive a free CAD Garage T-Shirt with their order. Moreover, you can sign-up for the monthly CAD Garage newsletter, filled with special offers and coupons for various items.

Graphisoft ArchiCAD 9 Receives Cadalyst Magazine All Star Award

ArchiCAD 9 was the only building information modeling (BIM) product to receive the prestigious All Star award this year from Cadalyst Magazine. This award recognizes the top products from January 2005 to June 2005 and salutes the best of the best -- the most outstanding among all products that earned the Five Star Highly Recommended rating from Cadalyst labs.

"Winning this award is a result of our unique customer-driven development process," says Bence Kovacs, vice president of product management at Graphisoft. "I thank our users for their constant involvement, the honor goes to them."

Cheetah 3D Update 2.3

During SIGGRAPH week Martin Wengenmayer, developer of Cheetah 3D, wrote in about this latest and free update: 2.3. The largest advancements are in the new layout manager and brand new polygon triangulator. The new layout manager allows you to customize the main window to your specific needs. It will also allow you to extend Cheetah 3D more easily in the future.

Martin says the new licensed industrial strength polygon triangulator is up to 100 times faster and offers unrivaled robustness. It cuts through complex fogs and logos like a hot knife through butter, he says. The price of a single user license of Cheetah 3D has changed to $99US, up from $69US.
