Would you believe just a few days, really, since our report on Strata's Millennium Madness Bundles, they come out and introduce a new product? And it's Strata 3D. This move to offer Strata 3D version 3 for free has everything to do with the company's goals of becoming the Macromedia of the 3D web world. Their press release explains all: MARINA DEL REY, CA, May 5, 2000 -- Chequemate International Inc. (AMEX:DDD), doing business as C3D Digital Inc., the world's first 3D television network and 3D Internet media company, announced today the release of the Strata 3D modeling, rendering, and real-time internet software package by its subsidiary, 3D.COM. Strata 3D version 3.0 is a complete, fully functional 3D creation suite which is now free for everyone to download from www.3d.com. Strata 3D has won numerous awards for its power and ease of use. Strata 3D was used to create Myst(TM), the most popular CD-ROM game in history, and has lit up the silver screen in movies like Batman and Robin(TM). If you notice on their products page Studio Pro, the last version being 2.5.3, is no longer listed. That's because it transformed into Strata 3D (hence version 3.0). Even the Strata 3D main page says StudioPro at the top in your browser window. You will recognize the interface of the tools palette as well. This update has long been under wraps at Strata for awhile but the company has been really quite, so much so that some long time users thought the program was dying.
