Tidbits: Tenon's XTools, Turbo Squid and US Bar Owner Shoots Laptop

Tenon Intersystems is now shipping Xtools 1.2, a free update to their X Window Server for Mac OS X. Xtools is a Mac OS X application that lets scientists and engineers display remote graphical applications on the Aqua desktop. Xtools is not only a vehicle for displaying remote X11 client applications, but also for developing local X11 clients. The Xtools X11 libraries let developers build clickable X applications that can be minimized in the Dock.

This release is a free update for all Xtools customers. As a way of compensating Xtools customers for the lateness of this upgrade, Tenon is offering registered customers complimentary licenses for MachTen or XTen, their legacy Mac OS products. Xtools 1.2 is $99 for academic and government users and $199 otherwise. It is downloadable from Tenon's site: http:://www.tenon.com/products/xtools.

US bar owner executes Dell laptop A bar and restaurant owner from Lafayette, Colorado was jailed earlier this week after pumping four rounds into his Dell laptop, the Knoxville News Sentine reports.http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/national/article/0,1406,KNS_350_1787279,00.html

George Doughty, 48, announced to patrons of his Sportsman's Inn Bar and Restaurant that he intended to execute the portable. He then disappeared into his office, returning after thirty minutes with said machine and revolver. Warning punters in the bar to cover their ears, he let the Dell have it with four rounds at close range. Doughty allegedly celebrated this orgy of violence by hanging the grisly remains over the bar like a hunting trophy.

What provoked the gangland-style execution remains unclear, although it does give new meaning to the phrase "percussive maintenance".

Doughty faces charges of felony menacing, reckless endangerment and the prohibited use of weapons. Whether his actions constitute a breach of MS Windows XP licensing terms remains to be seen.
