Q: How do I work with DWG files on the Mac? A: It depends. Read below. We are well aware of the sometimes difficult task of working with Autocad files on Macintosh CAD and 3D applications. The specifics of what you are trying to do with Autocad files depends on what application you are working in on the Mac and what you are doing with that data. Below are some resources which should help you find the specifics to your problem: General Advice We have found an excellent general guideline published by Macintosh AEC CAD authority and consultant Barry Isakson AIA. To read his DXF Translation Tips click here. While Barry's tips still hold true in general there are a number of new items. First off, many Mac CAD programs now can read and write Autocad 14 - 2000 files as DWG format with in-program translation. Most of these applications gain this ability by accessing the OpenDWG Alliance organization's code libraries which are shared with all members of that organization. Specific Solutions If your Macintosh CAD or 3D product has trouble with reading and writing Autocad DWG or DXF files trying contacting the vendor by email for detailed tips or using their technical forums, if available.
