VectorWorks Update Required for Apple's new Jaguar OS Architosh reader Stephane Laroye, IT Manager of Hotson Bakker Architects, of Vancouver, British Columbia, wrote in with an important note for all VectorWorks users on the Mac. According to an email sent in to her from a VectorWorks distributor, VectorWorks will need a patch in order to work with Jaguar. Here is the quoted material from Nemetschek: Apple informed us earlier this week that they will be shipping OS 10.2 even though it includes several important bugs which makes VectorWorks incompatible. This will be the fourth release in a row (10.1.4, 10.1.5 and QT 6 before) which causes noticeable problems with VectorWorks and will ultimately force us to release a 9.5.3 patch. Although it is good to see Apple aggressively improving their application suites for customers, they are doing it in conjunction with key changes to their OS architecture which should have much longer testing before release to customers than the traditional application. We are forced to develop patches which work around the problems and only serve to make us even more brittle to these changes in the future. This is Nemetschek's view on the importance of longer testing phases and we are not at all surprised to learn of this. Jaguar is reported to have over 150 new features and architectural improvements, so apps are bound to have issues. Folks should keep up with this Jaguar compatibility issue by visiting MacFixIt and software developer sites. We will be investigating this issue further.
